JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will spearhead our organization's digital journey, using technology to help us reach more people with life-saving medications worldwide. In this pivotal role, you'll craft and implement a technology strategy that strengthens how we distribute pharmaceuticals, connects with donors, meets regulatory requirements, and keeps our internal operations running smoothly. Working directly with our CEO as part of the MAP Leadership Team, you'll build and guide a talented IT department while developing productive relationships with our NGO partners around the globe. We're looking for someone who brings strong experience in cloud conversions and operations, combined with a genuine passion for our humanitarian mission. This position offers you the chance to apply your tech know-how to address a critical global challenge – getting essential medications to people who need them most, regardless of where they live.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DIGITAL STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop a comprehensive digital roadmap aligned with the non-profit's humanitarian mission and distribution goals
  • Research emerging technologies that can improve pharmaceutical tracking, logistics, and delivery systems
  • Create digital initiatives that maximize donor engagement, operational transparency, and impact measurement
  • Lead cross-functional digital solutions that connect headquarters, distribution centers, and global NGO partners

TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP

  • Oversee IT infrastructure that supports headquarters operations and seamless partner collaboration
  • Manage technology vendor relationships with focus on cost-effectiveness and alignment with non-profit values
  • Establish technical standards that balance innovation with sustainability and reliability
  • Integrate digital technology to optimize pharmaceutical distribution chains and inventory management

DONOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

  • Direct the development and maintenance of donor database systems that support fundraising efforts
  • Implement secure payment processing systems and digital donation platforms
  • Create data analytics capabilities to enhance donor retention and relationship management
  • Ensure proper data segregation and privacy controls for donor information

INVENTORY & DISTRIBUTION TECHNOLOGY

  • Oversee pharmaceutical inventory management systems with specialized tracking for medications
  • Implement technologies for expiration date monitoring, lot tracking, and recall management
  • Develop digital tools for optimizing distribution planning and managing transportation logistics
  • Create systems for real-time visibility across the global supply chain

PHARMACEUTICAL COMPLIANCE & SECURITY

  • Ensure adherence to international pharmaceutical regulations, import/export requirements, and donation guidelines
  • Develop robust cybersecurity protocols for protecting sensitive health and donor data
  • Implement systems to maintain chain of custody documentation for pharmaceutical products
  • Create technologies to detect and prevent counterfeit medications from entering the supply chain
  • Develop frameworks for compliance with FDA, DEA, EMA, WHO, and country-specific pharmaceutical regulations

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP

  • Provide data-driven insights on technology impact to the CEO, board, and major donors
  • Collaborate with program directors to align technology with pharmaceutical distribution initiatives
  • Manage technology budgets with high accountability and focus on donor fund stewardship
  • Translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and mission-focused leadership

IT TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Build and lead a skilled IT department with appropriate structure to support organizational needs
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and career development paths for IT team members
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback for team growth
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative culture within the IT department that aligns with organizational values
  • Mentor team members and create opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement
  • Balance workload effectively across the team and manage project prioritization
  • Develop succession planning and knowledge transfer protocols to maintain operational continuity
  • Advocate for IT team needs and achievements at the executive level
  • Create cross-training opportunities to ensure critical system knowledge is shared appropriately

INTERNAL STAFF TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

  • Ensure staff have appropriate technology tools and support to perform their roles effectively
  • Implement and maintain efficient internal communication and collaboration platforms
  • Develop training programs to maximize staff utilization of technology resources
  • Create intuitive knowledge management systems for internal documentation and procedures
  • Establish IT support processes that minimize disruption to daily operations

PARTNER DATA INTEGRATION

  • Design secure data submission systems that NGO partners can use from field environments
  • Create standardized data formats and protocols for partner reporting
  • Implement validation tools to ensure data quality from diverse partner sources
  • Develop integration interfaces that connect partner field data with internal systems

IMPACT MEASUREMENT & ANALYTICS

  • Develop systems to track medication distribution, utilization, and outcomes reporting
  • Implement analytics capabilities to measure program effectiveness and guide resource allocation
  • Enable data-driven storytelling to communicate impact to donors and partners
  • Create dashboards to visualize global reach and effectiveness of pharmaceutical distribution

PROCUREMENT & VENDOR MANAGEMENT

  • Lead technology-related RFP processes from requirements gathering to vendor selection
  • Develop evaluation frameworks for technology investments and vendor performance
  • Negotiate service level agreements that ensure system reliability and vendor accountability
  • Conduct regular review of existing vendor relationships for cost-effectiveness and performance

INTERNAL SYSTEMS OPTIMIZATION

  • Regularly review and optimize internal software platforms and technology assets
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement across departments
  • Implement performance monitoring tools to ensure system efficiency and reliability
  • Develop migration strategies for legacy systems requiring modernization
  • Create contingency and disaster recovery plans for critical operational systems

POLICY & PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Establish comprehensive IT policies aligned with organizational needs and industry requirements
  • Develop standardized procedures for technology implementation, usage, and maintenance
  • Create governance frameworks for data management and information security
  • Implement change management processes for technology transitions
  • Develop documentation standards for systems, processes, and technical requirements

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

This position will report to the CEO and will be part of the Senior Leadership Team. Internally this role will regularly interface with the other executive leaders of each division and will also work with other senior managers and cost center leaders for ongoing operations and special project. Externally, this position will interface with IT vendors, corporate partners, NGO partners, and other parties as a leadership representative of MAP International as needs arise.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • 8 or more years of experience in IT Sr. Leadership
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience in a related field. Master’s degree is preferred
  • Experience in leading an organization through a cloud conversion process preferred
  • Non-profit industry experience, preferred
